Our hearts overflow with THANKFUL gratitude to God for His blessings on us, our team, patients, family, friends, community, country and world.

Did you know that there are seven great reasons to be grateful? According to an article in Forbes Magazine, these benefits of gratitude have been scientifically proven.

Take a look – they’re sure to motivate you to give thanks throughout the entire year:

  1. Gratitude opens the door to more relationships.
  2. Gratitude improves physical health. Grateful people experience fewer aches and pains and they report feeling healthier than other people.
  3. Gratitude improves psychological health. Gratitude reduces a multitude of toxic emotions, ranging from envy and resentment to frustration and regret.
  4. Gratitude enhances empathy and reduces aggression. Grateful people are more likely to behave in a pro-social manner, even when others behave less kind.
  5. Grateful people sleep better. Writing in a gratitude journal improves sleep.
  6. Gratitude improves self-esteem. Studies have shown that gratitude reduces social comparisons.
  7. Gratitude increases mental strength. Recognizing all you have to be thankful for – even during the worst times of your life – fosters resilience.

Typically when we pay attention to what we are thankful for, loved ones top the list (including the 4-footed variety), followed by good health, a roof over our heads, enough food on the table, and our God and our country. These are the big, important things in life.

However, it’s also possible that the true meaning of gratitude lies in the appreciation of the small things in life.  Truly, 99.9 % of your life consists of the little things – have you ever thought about that?

Psychologists say that when we appreciate the seemingly little things, we engage in an even deeper practice of gratitude, because we have to actually focus and pay attention to them.

For example, the sparkle of sunlight on water, the sound of rain on a roof, the special laughter of a child.  How Grandpa’s eyes twinkle, the perfection of a bouquet of white tulips in a glass vase.

Have fun looking for small things to be thankful for, too.  It’s a great game that will keep you well occupied with an Attitude of Gratitude all year long.
